Dar es Salaam marathon attracts 5k runners

The inaugural Dar es Salaam International Marathon was a resounding success, attracting over 5,000 runners from 25 countries. The event has put Tanzania on the map as a premier destination for marathon running.

The race, which started and ended at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, took runners through the scenic streets of Dar es Salaam. The route passed by iconic landmarks and the beautiful Indian Ocean coastline.

Kenyan runner Joseph Kiprono won the men's race in a time of 2:10:45, while Ethiopian runner Tirunesh Dibaba won the women's race in 2:28:30. Both winners praised the organization and the enthusiastic crowds.

"This is an amazing event," said Kiprono. "The people of Dar es Salaam are so welcoming. I will definitely be coming back to defend my title."
